The National Eisteddfod Crown, one of the foremost honours awarded at the festival, was presented to local organisers by its maker and sponsors at a ceremony in St Davids this week.
St Clears craftsman David Petersen and Bryan Jones and Brinley Roberts, of the National Welsh-American Foundation, handed over the wrought iron band to John Thomas, chairman of the Eisteddfod Committee, at St Davids Visitor Centre on Monday evening.
Mr Petersen, who spent 18 months working on the crown - which is only awarded for the highest standards of poetry - described the commission as the highest honour our nation can give a maker. His design echoes the outlines of Carn Llidi and Carn Penberi hills, which overlook the city, and symbolises the concept of an artist wrapped in the natural landscape.
Mr Petersen said: A writer with the ability to win the crown will have the sensitivity to understand its significance.
