Sizzling start to Fish Week

PEMBROKESHIRES third Fish Week got off to a sizzling start at Milford Docks on Saturday.

The BBC Radio Wales roadshow provided a focal point for the mornings celebrations with Kevin Hughes presenting his morning show from the Docks.

And the crowds gave an enthusiastic welcome to the newly-developed Fishguard Sensational Sausage - a salmon and tarragon sausage created by Peter and Beverly Hughes. Local folk band, the Vagrant Crew, took to the stage with a few sea shanties, setting the tone for a fish-filled afternoon. While adults gathered round a cooking demonstration by Colin Pressdee and a fishmongering display by Duncan Lucas, kids had their choice of face-painting, a bouncy castle and a selection of juggling and magic shows.

Stalls on display included everything from a woodturner to the local credit union. The Skomer Marine Reserve and the RNLI also had information stands, while a raft of local produce from cakes to cooking sauces was available. Although the weather was pleasant, the indoor attractions were not short of visitors.

The colourful entries in the logo competition organised by the Milford Docks Company lured many people through the doors of Phoenix Bowl. The Pembrokeshire Rivers Trust and the South Wales Fishermens Association will each adopt winning entries as their new logo. Meanwhile, at the MITEC Marine Technology Centre, five times world powerboating champion, Jonathan Jones, made an appearance to mark the centres open day.

One of the main attractions was Jonathans new boat, looking like a fighter jet and capable of 150 mph.
