Brick falls down on Lmaphey

Llangwm (28 for 1) beat Lamphey (24 all out) Umpires: John Williams and Alan Hansen Scorers: Jeff Saies and Helen Hodges

A superb bowling spell by Darren Brick, ably supported by Andrew Phillips, caused the sensation of the day at Pill Parks as they reduced Lamphey to the rubble of 24 all out before reaching their target for the loss of one wicket in only eight overs.

The match was done and dusted by 3.40pm and it was made even more dramatic by the fact that the BBC Wales camera folk were there to capture on film the return to action of Lamphey skipper Dave Lovell - but it was the twin strike force of Brick and Phillips who caught the eye as Brick grabbed 6 for 12 and Phillips 4 for 12 in their eight overs apiece.

Brick claimed the prize scalp of Lovell, from one of three very good catches by Rob Neill, as he bowled up the slope on a wicket that had plenty of life in it, and then sensible batting by William Beresford, Ian Gow and Andrew Harries saw Llangwm earn 25 points to move off the foot of the table at the expense of their rivals, who had not a single point for their afternoons work.

Lovell started the afternoon off with a four in Bricks first over after being put in to bat by Llangwm skipper Mark Davies - but then partner Peter Hall chipped a Brick delivery to Neill, who stooped low to take the catch running in from mid-wicket and 5 without loss soon became 6 for 3 as Neil caught Daniel Sutton for a duck off Brick and at the other end Dilys Phillips bowled Gareth Lewis for a single.

Even worse was to follow because as Llangwm kept a tight rein on the runs with some good fielding, Neill claimed his third catch when Lovell pulled a delivery from Brick to mid-wicket - and at 10 for 4 the Lamphey batting was in trouble.

His departure fired up the Llangwm attack even further and Lamphey collapsed to 10 for 6 as Martyn Inward caught Mark Yea at mid-off and Rob Mathias chipped up a catch to Henry Thomas, and then Hywel Gibbs, Greg England and Andrew Skeels were bowled to make the scoreline 14 for 9.

Last pair Alan Lewis and Steve Vale contributed ten runs, six of them extras, including four wides, before Brick wrapped up the innings when he bowled Vale.

Lamphey went out to grab what they could from such a batting disaster and they bowled and fielded well to give nothing away. But with Ian Gow adopting the anchor role to perfection, William Beresford struck two fours off Hywel Gibbs only over and finished up with 17 before he was yorked by Greg England in the sixth over with the score on 22.

Gow made just a single from the 17 balls he faced and Andrew Harries struck the winning four through gully - and at 28 for 1 they had gained a win that will long be talked about in the Llangwm clubhouse.
