Martins the match winner

Lamphey (150 all out) lost to Hook (154 for 5) Umpires: Ray Kane and Barry Wood Scorers: Jo Kerrison/Helen Hodges and Arthur Green

Hook maintained their place in the top half of the table as they recorded a good win against Lamphey, who were all out for 150 with just a ball left of their allotted 45 overs.

It was a reasonable total, particularly in view of some of Hooks renowned collapses - but Jamie Phelps team held their nerve and were good value for victory by five wickets, with over two overs to spare as Matthew Rowlands completed a battling half century and there was another useful all-round display from Gary Martin.

Lamphey started well as Dave Lovell (33) and Peter Hall put on 68 before Hall was well caught for 29 by Brennan Lay off Gary Martin, who bowled Daniel Sutton at the same score for a duck.

Lovell was adjudged lbw to Cliff James at 85 and the left-armer enjoyed similar success when Mark Yea departed cheaply.

Martin went on to complete his 12 overs with 4 for 22 as he had Rob Mathias leg before and Andrew Skeels bowled without scoring - and although Hywel Gibbs batted really well for his 27 and Greg England smashed a huge six in a speedy 28, there was a general feeling that perhaps the Lamphey tally wasnt as much as they might have hoped for from a very good track as Matthew Holder chipped in with 2 for 16 and Alister Platten 2 for 24.

Hook also made a solid start as Platten and Rowlands put on 46, although it was slow progress after they had scored 30 in only five overs but then faced full stints apiece from Lovell and Hall where only 45 runs came in 24 overs.

They lost Platten for 26 (five fours) but skipper Phelps (19) and Rowlands (seven fours in his 50) advanced the score to 118 for 3.

Keith James was run out from a superb throw-in by Mark Yea and Andrew Thomas became Hywel Gibbs second scalp but Gary Martin remained calm with his unbeaten 25 containing a six and three fours - and it was left to Cliff James to join him in seeing Hook home with a little to spare on a good day for them.
