Dropped catches cost Town dear

Haverfordwest (236 for 5) drew with Lawrenny (160 for 8) Umpires: Dave Brandon and John Williams Scorers: Jayne Cole and Malcolm Thomas

Haverfordwest scored a huge 236 for 5 against Lawrenny as Andrew Phillips marked his first-team recall with 74 runs and Karl Rhead supported with 56.

But once again The Town bowlers were unable to prise out the opposition as their fielders dropped six sharp catches and Lawrenny settled for 160 for 8, still a few runs short of any bonus points for the draw as they quietly played out the final over after some big hitting by Andrew Cole (junior) had put them in line on a good track and very fast outfield at The Racecourse. Andrew Phillips joined skipper Jonathan Twigg in their regular opening spots over recent seasons and they put on 27 before Twigg was caught by Chris Vincent off Simon Cole for 22 (three fours).

Rhead joined Phillips in advancing the score to 120 before Rhead was caught behind by Christian Phillips off Ian Jenkins spin, his 56 containing a six and seven fours and made from just 61 balls.

Phil Sutton (24) and Phil Kirkby (12) gave Andrew Phillips support as he was finally out for 74 in 120 balls, with nine boundaries to his credit before Paul Thomas and Steve Phillips advanced the score to 236 with some late hitting.

Lawrenny lost James Buckle early as Adrian Griffiths struck, with Chris Vincent departing with the score at 15, bowled by Paul Thomas. But Andrew Cole (senior) batted well alongside Steve Lewis until the latter fell to a superb one-handed catch from Paul Thomas, running in at long-on.

Phil Sutton also took a good catch at long-on to shift Ian Jenkins for 30 after Andrew Cole (senior) had been bowled by Steve Phillips for 44 (six fours and a six) and before Andrew Cole (junior) was caught by sub Tim Painter at square leg after Cole had lashed three mighty sixes in his 29. But the match petered out as Lawrenny made sure of avoiding defeat, with Adrian Griffiths the pick of the Town bowling as he claimed 2 for 11 in 11 overs.
