Matthew Davies was the star of Whitlands big win over Cresselly, the young all-rounder known to all as Titch showing how much he has grown in stature on the cricket pitch with a sparkling 69 not out batting at No 8 for Paul Webbs youthful side, and two wickets after tea to help send the opposition crashing to defeat by 111 runs.

Whitlands 216 for 8 total was all the more remarkable since they lost three early wickets as Steffan Jenkins removed Webb and Paul Davies, the key men in the Whitland line-up, with only five runs on the board.

Hywel Bevan also went to Lyn Richards for seven but Rhyddian Harries (35) and Daniel Griffiths (48) put them back on track in a partnership of 58. Mark Lee also chipped in with a welcome 35 and although his brother Dave departed for a duck the stage was nicely set for Titch to launch a six and five fours as he sped to his fifty in 33 balls and helped Mark Lee add 85 in double-quick time.

It was a fine innings by the youngster as Steve Jenkins and Lyn Richards claimed three wickets apiece.

Cresselly made an even worse start as they reeled to 11 for 3 when Mark Lee bowled brothers Julian and Damian Arthur - and Huw Devonald did the same to Phil Williams.

Paul Luke and Richard Harries brought a little order to matters but both fell to Webbs canny off-spin and from there on only No 10 James Caine managed double figures as Titch Davies claimed 2 for 11, Webb 3 for 26, Lee 3 for 17 and Devonald 2 for 18.
