Fraser fires on all cylinders

Hook (110 all out) lost to Pembroke (114 for 4) Umpires: John Williams and David Loosemore Scorers: Arthur Green and Matthew Mitchell

Pembroke bounced back from the disappointment of mid-week defeat in the Harrison-Allen Bowl to record a comfortable league win over a Hook side which didnt bat well and was unable to restrict Mark Frasers stroke play when Pembroke set out in pursuit.

Fraser hasnt been able to play all the games for his club this season and he showed what an asset he is with a series of boundaries in his unbeaten 62 as he guided Pembroke home by six wickets with over 13 overs to spare.

Hook welcomed back Ben Field for his first game of the season after a long-term back injury and he scored a neat 23 after Hook had lost Matthew Rowlands and Jamie Phelps early to erstwhile Pembroke skipper Gwyn Griffiths.

Field was bowled by spinner Nigel Phillips with three fours to his credit and the only other real resistance supplied by Hook was via opener Alister Platten (five fours in his 32) and Gary Martin, who hit two fours and a six off young spinner Paul White before White gained revenge by bowling him.

White finished with 3 for 21 alongside the deceptive medium pace of Martin Fletcher, who picked up 3 for 22, and veteran opening bowler Kevin Jenkins returned for a second spell to finish Hook off on 110, a low score in the prevailing conditions.

Hooks only hope was to make early inroads into the Pembroke batting line-up but Fraser was joined by anchor man Barry Evans in putting on 66 for the first wicket before Evans went for 13.

Craig Nutty lasted for just a single before he was bowled by Keith James and Paul White suffered the indignity of being run out without facing a ball as Johnnie Palmers throw was too quick for him - so that 66-0 became 71 for 3.

But Fraser remained at the crease and received support from Nigel Phillips, who injured his back hitting one of the best boundaries of the day, and Gareth Scourfield, who rapped two fours at the finish as Fraser finished with a match-winning 62 not out.
