Fire chief to stand down after 20 years

THE chief fire officer of the Mid and West Wales Brigade, Mr Ronnie King, has announced his decision to stand down on November 15th.

Having served the fire service for 41 years, with almost 20 years spent as chief fire officer in Mid and West Wales, Mr King said: It is now time to move on to another chapter in my life.

He paid tribute to members and staff of the Brigade. Originally from Yorkshire, Mr. King joined the West Riding of Yorkshire Fire Brigade in 1961, and in his career has served in London, Fife and with the Home Office, before taking over command of the newly-formed Mid and West Wales Fire Brigade in April 1966.

During his distinguished career Mr King was awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal in 1984 and in 1995 was awarded the OBE for outstanding contribution to the service over many years.

The chairman of the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority, Councillor Wilf Davies, said: Mr King has done a wonderful job as chief fire officer and his experience and dedication will be sorely missed.
