Makeshift Pembroke pay the price

Pembroke (83 all out) lost to Llangwm (84 for 1) Umpires: Trefor Evans and David Loosemore Scorers: Keith Mitchell, Janice Brick and Jeff Saies

Llangwm dramatically improved their chances of staying in Division One as they gained a crushing win over Pembroke at Treleet.

Both sides were short of key players but Pembroke clearly missed theirs more as they found the Llangwm bowling attack too hot to handle before William Beresford and Andrew Harries knocked off the runs to ease their side home to a morale-boosting win just seven days before their appearance in the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final.

Pembroke openers Craig Nutty and Hugh Davies put on 23 without ever looking comfortable against Darren Brick and Andrew Phillips, who had Davies well caught at slip by Mark Davies.

Then Brick struck twice at the same score as Craig Nutty (14) lobbed a catch to Matthew Hughes and William Davies became Mark Davies second victim at slip without scoring - and Brick finished with 3 for 16 in 12 overs, seven of them maidens, as he forced Paul White to touch a ball into Beresfords gloves.

Matthew Hughes, Mark Davies and Martyn Inward maintained the momentum for Llangwm as only Gwyn Griffiths and Chris Thomas managed double figures, and there was a brace of catches apiece for the ubiquitous Brick and Richard Brock.

Last pair Martin Fletcher and Keith Johnson chipped in with 19 runs to take Pembroke to 83 all out in 36 overs, but it was hardly likely to trouble Llangwm unless the homesters could claim early wickets.

Llangwm openers Beresford and Ian Gow gave their side a solid start with 38 runs coming before Gow was caught by keeper Keith Johnson off Kevin Jenkins with three boundaries in his 12 runs.

But Beresford found a willing ally in Andrew Harries, who struck six fours in making 29 not out from only 33 balls - and Beresford strolled to 32 not out with seven boundaries to his name as Llangwm needed just 19 overs to record a nine-wicket success.
