Martin toils away in vain

Lawrenny (102 for 6) versus Hook (Abandoned) Umpires: Ronnie Morse and John Williams Scorers: Arthur Green and Malcolm Thomas

Hook all-rounder Gary Martin continued his recent good form as he grabbed four wickets against a Lawrenny side which had made an excellent start via Adrian Harries and Chris Vincent.

But after Hook had fought back and Lawrenny were not quite so comfortable on 102 for 6, the weather intervened.

Harries was dropped a few weeks ago but has reacted well on his return and maintained his run-making as he shared an opening stand of 53 with Vincent as Keith and Cliff James toiled in vain.

Vincent reached 26 before Martin came on as the fourth Hook bowler and tempted him into touching a ball into Jamie Phelps waiting gloves.

Andrew Cole (Senior) never looked settled as he helped Harries add another 19 runs but was bowled by Matthew Holder for two runs - and then James Buckle departed for a single as he risked a suicide single to Barry Evans and the teenage fielders throw ran him out by miles!

Gary Martin struck again when he bowled danger man Steve Lewis for only three runs and just when Harries looked assured of a half century he drove a delivery from Martin straight to mid-on and Brennan Lay pouched a good catch to get rid of the opener for 48 with the score on 95.

Ian Jenkins was his usual composed self but Martin finished with 4 for 16 in eight accurate overs when he bowled Andrew Cole (Senior) - and then came the rain to ruin a game that was at a very interesting stage.
