Damp squib at the Racecourse

Haverfordwest (62 for 1) versus Carew (Abandoned) Umpires: Dai Morris and Trefor Evans Scorer: Jayne Cole

The eagerly-awaited top of the table clash between Haverfordwest and Carew was a victim of the rain which swept in across The Racecourse and instead of the expected fireworks there was the damp squib of a match abandoned - but with The Town grabbing two batting points by dint of the fact that they scored 60 runs.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, home skipper Jonathan Twigg led the way with some nice strokes as partner Andrew Phillips was content to adopt the anchor role and try to give Twigg the strike.

This experienced pair put on 45 runs in 11 overs against Darren Thomas and Steve Ive but Carew showed typical fighting spirit as the introduction of Rob Scourfield and Simon Wood brought a brake to the runs.

Scourfields deceptive away swing eventually fooled Twigg when hed struck five boundaries in a useful 39 out of the first 55 runs and Phillips was still there with 13 not out alongside young Richard James when the rain became persistent and the umpires had to call a halt - and end a game which was at a very promising stage indeed.
