Richards run-feast halted early

Cresselly looked likely to reach a huge total at Treleet as Lyn Richards led the run gathering against a depleted Pembroke attack which had taken three wickets but the visitors were already on 141 with nine overs remaining.

Pembroke skipper Gwyn Griffiths grabbed all three Cresselly wickets to fall, starting with the scalp of opposing captain Richard Harris after the former Welsh international had looked good with two boundaries to start his innings.

But then Harris tried to clip the ball to mid-wicket as he found the power but not the direction as Barry Evans clutched the ball to his lower midriff before falling to the ground, clearly in pain.

Griffiths then bowled Damian Arthur cheaply and the fast bowler followed up with the scalp of Damians big brother Julian, the opener deceived by a slower ball when hed rapped three fours and a huge straight six in his 27, touching the ball into Keith Johnsons waiting gloves.

But Pembroke were unable to make any further impact as Kevin Jenkins was clearly carrying a groin injury and although Nigel Phillips bowled his 12 overs of off-spin for only 29 runs Lyn Richards found another willing ally in Paul Luke, who was 19 not out when the rain came.

Richards was in good nick on 67 not out, including nine fours, when the umpires had no option but to call the game off.
