Hollywood meets the Haven!

HOLLYWOOD has finally reached the Haven thanks to a new independent film company - and one Milford Haven resident is destined for big screen super-stardom, according to the films director.

Galleon Films have been shooting a remake of the classic 1963 Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn romantic comedy, Charade, around the county and filming wound up last week in Milford Haven.

Director Austin Mitchelson assembled an international cast for the romantic-comedy, but found himself unable to fill the crucial role of the Black Widow.

Mr Mitchelson said: I found myself sitting there desperately in need of a sophisticated Grace Kelly type when I looked up and saw her walking past me. She was just perfect for the part.

This time next year she is going to be in big demand. But, Julie Parks, general manager of The Lord Nelson Hotel, is slightly more modest about her future as a big-screen siren.

I better get myself an agent, Julie joked, but realistically, I didnt think they were serious when they asked me.

It was really interesting. You dont realise how much work goes into making a movie when you are sitting there eating your popcorn.

Shooting of the film, provisionally titled Faking It - but likely to go on release as Duplicity - has been going on in Pembrokeshire for a month, taking in Broad Haven, Tenby and Milford Docks, as well as building an indoor beach in a warehouse at Blackbridge.

Mr Mitchelson said: I was down here on holiday in January and I realised this would be a perfect place to make the movie. Its Hollywood meets the Haven.

This is not your traditional gritty British gangster movie. We are using advanced filming techniques to create an innovative new picture - a witty and original romantic comedy thriller.

Another Milford Haven local, 30-year-old Jerome Davies, was enlisted as sound recordist on the shoot.

Jerome, more usually found in the studio at the Torch Theatre, said: Its been really interesting. A lot madder than you expect.

The film will now go into post-production in the USA before its premiere next year.
