Water, water everywhere!

Torrential downpours bought flooding to many parts of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock on Monday.

Four firefighting crews and around 30 council workers battled to bring the problem under control on Monday morning as the area's drains failed to cope with the heavy rain.

Firefighters from Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Tenby diverted rain water from, and pumped water out of, besieged properties, including a pub and a few shops, in the Pembroke Dock area. Council workers handed out sandbags and cleared storm drains.

Affected areas included: Wavell Crescent, Trinity Road, Bush Street, Dimond Street, Meyrick Street, Waterloo Cottages, the St Govans Centre, Co-op Lane, Apley Terrace, West Street in Pennar, Front Street and North Street. In Pembroke, residents of West Street in Orange Gardens, Lower Row and Whitehall Drive also experienced flooding problems.

Firefighters dealt with numerous calls, particularly between 11 am and 1 pm. A spokesman said all calls were dealt with in a reasonable time.

A council spokesman said on Monday: "Our workers have filled over 1,000 sandbags and we are helping those with special needs, such as the blind and the disabled."
