Countdown begins for charity bike ride

THE countdown has begun for the British Heart Foundation Pembrokeshire Bike Ride which takes place on Sunday, September 22nd.

This will be the ninth year the ride has taken place, but with a different person at the helm.

Andrew Jones, who has for the last eight years organised this event, has now handed over the reins to the charity's new area organiser for Mid and West Wales, Julie George.

Julie said: "I am very much looking forward to the ride, having already organised this year's Pembrokeshire Junior Bike Ride, which was a great success raising over £2,400. Following in Andrew's footsteps is going to be a very big challenge."

Once again, registrations can be by post or in person at Mikes Bikes in Haverfordwest; Bierspool Cycles, Pembroke Dock, or at Enterprise Cycles off Honeyborough Roundabout. Alternatively, you can register at the start on the morning of the ride.

There is an entry fee of £5 with a family entry for up to two adults and two children aged 14 and over for £10, and if registering on the day the fee will be £6.

The Pembrokeshire Bike Ride is not a race. There are no prizes for finishing first or the fastest rider. There are, however, prizes to be won for the highest fundraising individual and team. In addition, there will be prizes for everyone who raises £25 or more sponsorship money.

The more sponsorship you raise the better the prize. The top team fundraisers will receive the Western Telegraph Trophy, won last year by Prendergast Youth Club.

There is a choice of two routes, catering for all abilities - 25-miles and 11 miles.
