St Ishmaels 4 Tenby 1
St Ishmaels' superb start to the season continued over the weekend following this comprehensive victory over Tenby.
With their new recruits and superb spirit, Tish are leading the way in Division One as Tenby found out all too well.
Such is Tish's strength in depth at present that there is no place in the starting line up for Dai Proctor, who is as talented a player that there is in the county. He found himself on the subs bench at the start of play and it will take a concerted effort from him to take him from there.
Right from the start Tenby were hardly in the game. Their usual fluency was missing as the home side made all the running with their midfield functioning well and their defence holding firm.
They took the lead in the first half when Andrew Palmer saw Dewi Davies off his line and he unleashed a ferocious shot from over 25 yards that screamed into the back of the net. While Tish were able to create chances by playing the ball around the park, Tenby were forced to shoot from distance, and this proved fruitless as John Pawlett was in top form between the sticks.
The second goal came after the break after John Roden rose high from a corner to head the ball home. Goal number three soon followed after Palmer delivered the ball through to Adam Davies, and he used his pace to good effect to breakthrough the covering defence and slip the ball under the keeper.
Tenby reduced the deficit when they were awarded a penalty and David Day made no mistake from the spot kick but that deficit was soon extended again when Adam Davies was brought down in the box and Anthony Roberts slammed the ball into the back of the net from the resulting spot kick.
Tish's result was even more remarkable since they had a number of boys out for various reasons and they will surely get more results like these as the season goes on.
