Cardigan's form continues with another good result

Cardigan 36 Vardre 3

Cardigan maintained their excellent start to the season as they followed away success at Newcastle Emlyn with this resounding victory against Vardre at the King George Vth Ground.

The Teifisiders ran in two tries before the break and another four afterwards as fly half Aled Thomas linked well with partner Gareth Mason and his back row, while using the pace and power of skipper Barry John and Dylan Rees in the centre.

Both scored tries and were always involved, as was full back Eurig Lloyd with his timely runs that always caused problems.

It was Thomas who opened the scoring for the Teifisiders after a good run by Chris James from a tap penalty had created a gap for the fly half to wriggle through.

Then Thomas added the extra points after sending skipper Barry John away with a short pass that saw the club captain race in from 35 metres - and although Vardre were strong in the set-pieces allthey had to show at the break was a penalty from John Morris.

Vardre also enjoyed some early pressure after the break but Cardigan broke clear and a powerful run by Barry John was followed by a long pass which sent winger Alun Williams racing over for a corner try.

Quick ruck ball and good driving allowed flanker Mark Hughes to score and as Vardre tried to play catch-up rugby a midfield pass was intercepted by Dylan Rees and the young centre raced in from 30 metres.

Eurig Lloyd took over the kicking duties in the absence of Thomas and slotted the easy conversion, as he did right on full time when Chris James picked up a ball sprung loose in the tackle and rounded off the scoring as reward for some yeoman work alongside Andrew Phillips, Hughes and Steve Liptrot.
