Saundersfoot Sports 1 Hakin United 5 Referee: Paul Lloyd
Sharp shooting Viking striker Paul Jones was on fire against Saundersfoot on Saturday, slamming in three goals against the hapless home team in a convincing 5-1 win.
Jones usually takes a few games to get into his stride but once he starts knocking them in, he just keeps on scoring.
Hakin's skill and vision was just too much for Saundersfoot on the day a fact acknowledged by Sports manager Phil Jones,:
"They're quick and they want the ball. They know the systems that they play and they do them well, but we've just got to battle on."
Battle on they must as so far this season they have failed to get any points at all but Saturday's game was always going to be tough on them.
Hakin dominated from the start as their mid field exercised control. The first goal came from a Jones header which stemmed from a free-kick into the box. Goal number two soon followed as Paul Tuner showed coolness under pressure with a neat finish.
At this stage of the game they were creating chances at will and on any other day Leighton Edwards would have had a hat-full of goals, as it happened, he didn't get any at all.
Saundersfoot came back into it more towards the end of the first half as Robbie Beynon missed a sitter and Steve Ruff just missed but a goal proved elusive.
Straight after the restart to the second half Jonah scored again when he deflected in a Steve Mathias shot. Three-nil quickly became 4-0 when Mike Cooper got in on the act but then the homesters pulled one back courtesy of Ruff's shot from 20 yards.
With the game drawing to a close Jonah grabbed his third and the teams' fifth goal while all Saundersfoot could do was sit back and absorb the pressure and mercifully for them the final whistle blew soon after.
Hakin defender Adam Wheeler was upbeat about his team's performance on the day saying:
"We played well and are getting better all the time but there is still room for improvement."
