New chairman for young farmers

A new chairman was welcomed at Pembrokeshire YFC's executive committee AGM recently.

Departing chairman Anthea Phillips spoke of the 'highs and lows' of her long term in office, which spanned 21 months due to the foot and mouth outbreak.

Incoming chairman, Andrew Lewis, known as 'Cilgwyn', has been a member of Eglwyswrw YFC for a number of years. He works at home on his family's dairy and sheep farm, as well as supplementing his income with a disco DJ business. He is married to Gaenor, a fellow member of Eglwyswrw YFC and a teacher at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi.

Karen Jones from Llawhaden was elected county vice-chairman. Karen has been a YFC member from the age of ten and, over the last 16 years, has participated in almost every competition, from stockjudging to public speaking. She has served as a rally queen attendant and is the current Pembrokeshire Young Farmer of the Year. She combines her YFC activities with being a wife to Andrew, a local farmer and contractor, and mother to two children, Emily and Jack.
