Hudgell stars as Narberth bomb out of cup

MERLINS BRIDGE substitute Steve Sutton scored a second half hat-trick against unbeaten NARBERTH to ease the home side through to the second round.

But it was forward Lee Hudgell who stole the show with a goal and two assists against a depleted visitors side in a hard fought game at the Racecourse, writes Steve Adams.

Plenty of Bridge pressure failed to break the deadlock until 20 minutes after the break when Hudgell found himself in space on the edge the box and slotted the ball home.

Last year's runners-up took just two minutes to level thanks to a fine 20-yard strike from Raff Barnett. Sutton's introduction soon followed and a combination of good work from Bridge and defensive suicide from the visitors offered the substitute an easy 20 minute hat-trick.

Elsewhere, HAKIN enhanced their already awesome reputation with a 21-0 drubbing of FISHGUARD SPORTS at St Mary's Field. Striker Paul Jones hit nine, while Leighton Edwards (4), Steven Mathias (3), Gary Dawes, Michael Cooper, Mark Devonald, Gerard Grey and Michael Beavis all found the net.

Shock of the weekend was HERBRANDSTON's 7-0 whitewash of TENBY. A hat-trick from A. J. Galdo, a brace for Timmy Griffiths, one for Jamie Boswell and an own goal finished off the the visiting seasiders. The Division Two table-toppers carried on their good league form and outplayed a Tenby side missing eight first team regulars.

A gripping Second Division clash had ST DAVIDS trailing visitors ST CLEARS 3-1 at the break. A couple of half-time changes altered the shape of the game and saw the home side take the tie 4-3, with two apiece from Gareth Chalmers and Gary Jenkins.

HUNDLETON and PENDINE played out a six-goal thriller with the home side's Justin Blewett getting two and Wesley Reynolds grabbing the third while Pendine's Neil Griffiths scored a pair to add to Barry Palmer's strike.

SOLVA found themselves outplayed by PRENDERGAST VILLA, who were one up at half-time thanks to Adrian Moore. Goals from Steve Britton and Darren O'Leary finished off the team who have been been Villa's bogey side in recent years.

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY went to London Road with just ten men. Gary John (5), Jason Beynon (4), Christian McCloud (2) and one from Richard Scourfield saw PEMBROKE BORO canter into the next round 12-0.

Second-half goals from Anthony Davies and Steve James saw CAMROSE come back after trailing an Andrew Turner goal in the all First Division tie with MILFORD UNITED.

LAWRENNY, without a league win, were 2-0 up against visitors NEYLAND thanks to Stefan Jenkins and Steven Lewis when Jason Phillips hit a late consolation for the visitors.

A tight opening half saw MANORBIER United trail MONKTON SWIFTS by a single goal at the break thanks to a Barry Dilworth effort. But goals from Ian Rome (4) and Martin James (2) had Swifts come out comfortable winners after the interval.

PENNAR ROBINS avenged last year's defeat at the hands of MILFORD ATHLETIC. Goals from Wayne Brunton (2), Lee Gilpin, Andrew Green and Paul Lowe saw them ease past Milford Athletic 5-2 at Pill Lane.

John Bailey's late equaliser cancelled out a Richard Bullock strike as CAREW and GOODWICK UNITED drew 1-1. John Roden put league-leaders ST ISHMAELS ahead at the break at JOHNSTON before a Mark Sture volley levelled the score. But Paul Palmer (2) and Nick Jones ensured that Tish go through to the next round.

SAUNDERSFOOT SPORTS strolled past LETTERSTON, with the visitors hitting five to cancel out Tristan Maxwell's effort for the home side. The game between HUBBERSTON and LAMPHEY had to be called off when the visitors were unable to field a team.
