Visitors too strong for All-Blacks

Neyland 8 Cwmgors 24 A much improved display by Neyland's All-Blacks still wasn't enough to secure them a win against visitors Cwmgors.

In the final analysis, the visitor's just had too much nous in the backs for the home side to cope with, especially fly-half Geraint Jones who used to ply his trade with Caerphilly, and full back Phil Sparrow who has played for a host of major clubs.

Neyland started off well though in this entertaining tussle and Matthew Williams, the inspirational No8, almost barged his way over after one minute.

However it was the visitors who grabbed an early lead after scrum half Paul Garland nipped over with Sparrow converting.

Mark Riley reduced the deficit with a neatly struck penalty and with a Cwmgors second row being sin binned for throwing a punch, Neyland had an opportunity to snatch a half time lead but it wasn't to be.

But they did take the lead after the break when Delme Bateman showed a good pair of heels to scorch over for a try and Riley was unlucky not to add the extras when his kick hit the post.

However, that proved to be the last time that Neyland scored as Cwmgors then took control. They scored two quick tries the first by Clyde Morgan which Sparrow converted and the other by the ace goal kicker who converted that as well.

Neyland suffered a further blow soon after when Lee Perkins sustained a neck injury and the game was held up while he was treated.

This injury must have affected Neyland's concentration as they conceded yet another try through Andrew Davies. Graham Badham was then sin-binned for a late tackle which just about summed up Neyland's day.
