Lucky needs a break

47News Lucky break

A dog saved from destruction at the 11th hour is now looking for a home. Lucky, a nine-month-old collie, was rescued from a local kennel where she had been kept for almost a week. Lucky's time had almost run out when Lorraine Winterford, of Lamphey, stepped in to save her.

Lorraine, a member of the Pembrokeshire Local Animal Welfare group, had heard about Lucky's impending fate from another group member. She said: "I have a collie of my own and there was no way I was going to stand there and let this dog die."

Despite her strong feelings, Lorraine is unwilling to name the kennel or criticise them for their destruction policy. She said: "They just don't have the facilities to home them. There are no facilities in the county for stray animals. Local volunteer groups have been inundated with them and we are simply collapsing under the weight of it."

Lucky has proved popular with Lorrraine's children; 12-year-old Emily, 11-year-old Catherine and Ryan, aged ten.

Lorraine said: "Someone loved her once because she's got a collar on her, but no-one's come forward.

"She's going to be such an obedient dog. If you tell her to sit she's quite happy to sit. She's an absolute darling."

Anyone able to give Lucky a home should contact Lorraine on 01646 672842.
