MP hits back at Queen of Mean

An insulting remark by television's 'Queen of Mean', Anne Robinson, could damage Pembrokeshire's tourism industry.

Preseli MP Jackie Lawrence has leapt to Pembrokeshire's defence after a vitriolic comment made on the game show, 'The Weakest Link', last week.

Ms Robinson was grilling one of her contestants, a Tenby caravan salesman, when she made a derogatory remark about the county.

She misheard the name of his home county. At first she thought he said Pwllheli, which she described as a dreadful place to live. He then corrected her, but she retorted with a comment that Preseli was even more dreadful than Pwllheli!

Mrs Lawrence has described the outburst as 'misguided, sadly inaccurate and an insult to the entire UK'.

"Pembrokeshire is one of the most beautiful counties in the UK and we have a National Park to prove it,'' she said. "If she insults us then she is clearly insulting the rest of the UK too.''

She pointed out that Dale had the highest sunshine rate in the UK. "I suspect she relished the publicity and profile she got when she insulted Wales earlier this year. Perhaps she feels that further insults may do the same again and improve her chances of securing chairmanship of yet another TV show,'' added Mrs Lawrence.
