TENBY'S brave Boxing Day bathers are being encouraged to splash out on collecting even more sponsorship this year with the goal of winning a relaxing weekend break.
Last year the event raised more than £15,200 for charity, which takes the total raised by the Boxing Day Swim in its 31-year history to around £90,000.
While some individual dippers collect for their own charitable causes, others raise money for the charities supported by the event organisers, the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA).
This year, the bather raising the highest sponsorship for TSSA charities will win a weekend for two at the St David's Hotel and Spa in Cardiff Bay. This prize has been arranged by the swim sponsors, Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, and the winner will also receive the Idris Morgan Cup, donated in memory of TSSA's former president.
There will also be shields for the highest overall sponsored swimmer and junior swimmer under 12, as well as the Caradoc James Trophy for the junior swimmer raising the most for TSSA charities.
This year's main charities to benefit are the Tenby Friends of Tenovus, the South Pembrokeshire Stroke Club, Pembrokeshire Counselling Service and Pembrokeshire Action for the Homeless, together with other local good causes.
There will also be prizes for fancy dress, which this year is on the theme 'Tenby's History'.
Sponsor forms for the swim are now available from the Fourcroft Hotel, Tenby; Noble's Newsagents, Narberth or from www.tenby.tv.
