Warning to revellers: Beware spiked drinks

Drinkers have been warned to and be aware of the dangers of spiked drinks when enjoying a night out.

Inspector Nigel Hayes, of Haverfordwest Police, said young people in the area were already 'quite switched on' when it came to the dangers of drugs being added to drinks.

Sergeant Tim Hoad said: "We have had cases where we have been contacted after people, often young women, have felt sick after drinking. In those cases, we are able to respond and take samples from the drink to see if substances have been added."

There have not yet been any local cases where a spiked drink has been involved in a case of sexual assault but such cases have been reported elsewhere in the country.

Sergeant Hoad said: "Who knows what someone might put in your drink? We've had cases where people have spiked drinks just for a laugh; to see people who are normally quite reserved be affected by the drug."
