Narberth too hot for Tenby

As league favourites Hakin battled out a West Wales Cup third round win against Division One rivals Goodwick, current tabletoppers Tenby played host to third placed Narberth at the Clicketts.

The visitors made the most of the early breaks when Wayne Howells knocked a long ball out of defence to Paul Phillips who spotted Tenby player/coach Dewi Davies off his line and coolly chipped him from 25 yards.

The Seasiders battled hard to regain parity and were the better side for the rest of a scrappy opening period despite losing Anthony Griffiths after five minutes.

They picked up a deserved equaliser three minutes after the break when David Merrick was able to tap home following a Steve Hanlan freekick. The home side continued to play well for the next ten minutes on a pitch which helped neither side's footballing abilities and left Davies ruing a poor playing surface as Narberth slowly took control.

Narberth's midfield became more and more dominant as the second half progressed, with Grant James in particular catching the eye.

Raff Barnett latched onto a through ball and dribbled around Davies to make it restore the visitor's lead on 60 minutes.

Ex-Haverfordwest player James then put Wayne Howells through to make it three.

Howells, Grant and Barnett were again involved with some excellent interpassing which saw Barnett put the match beyond the home side with less than ten minutes left on the clock.
