More out of work in the county

THE number of people out of work in Pembrokeshire increased in November.

A total of 2,188 men and women were jobless - a rise of 1.3%. Tenby saw the biggest hike with an additional 21.4% registered unemployed. The total was 284.

The Tenby and Pembroke area still have the unenviable record of being second in the Welsh unemployment league table.

The only areas which saw a drop were Milford Haven with 585 jobless, representing 12.8% of the working population, and Pembroke Dock with 504 (7.7%).

In other Jobcentre areas, Fishguard had 151 (7.9%) out of work, and Haverfordwest had 611 (4.7%).

The Haverfordwest travel-to-work area, which includes Milford Haven, is sixth in the unemployment league and Fishguard and St Davids are in 11th place.

Cardigan is 16th and Carmarthen is 26th.
