Tapestry trustees to meet minister

National Assembly culture minister, Jenny Randerson, has agreed to meet with trustees of the Last Invasion Centre in Fishguard to discuss the future of the project.

This commitment was made formally last week in the Assembly chamber, when Dr Richard Edwards, Labour AM for Preseli Pembrokeshire, raised the issue of the centre once again, and follows on from a written commitment made earlier in the week.

Dr Edwards questioned the Minister on her plans for greater community involvement in the arts in Wales.

Dr Edwards said: "The proposed Last Invasion Centre in Fishguard is a community-initiated project where an experienced team with an excellent track record plans to regenerate the town centre, create new jobs, support entrepreneurship in textile design and craft, and provide a much-needed tourist attraction for north Pembrokeshire.

The culture minister responded: "I hope that when we meet in the near future we can find a way forward for this project, or a way in which this tapestry can, in the long term, be displayed."

This news has been welcomed by the trustees, who are now working to finalise details of the meeting.
