Vikings ease through

Hakin United 5 Prendergast Villa 1

There were no giant killing exploits at Phoenix Park, Goodwick on Saturday as Hakin made their expected progress through to yet another final of the Senior Cup.

A lot of credit must go to Prendergast for putting up such a valiant fight against the Kings of Pembrokeshire soccer as with just 30 minutes to go, The Vikings only led 1-0. And then the floodgates opened.

It could have been so different too as despite having to defend for the majority of the game, Prendergast did have their chances especially in the first half when Darren O'Leary almost equalised with a header that flew inches wide.

Nigel Armstrong put Hakin in the lead with a well-taken goal in the first half but despite putting Villa under pressure no further goals were coming.

After an hour and the pressure finally told on the Villa defence as Karl Rhead added two quick goals and the game was all but over.

Steve Britton made it 3-1 with a fine chip over Jason Morgan but Steve Mathias and Paul Jones wrapped it all up with two goals late on.
