Daniel delivers

Narberth 25 Tondu 18

A penalty and two late drop goals by outside half Simon Daniel gave Narberth a home win against Tondu.

The Otters were boosted by their superb win against Pontypool the previous week and eager to gain revenge for a 24-38 reverse at Tondu - and they made a good start as Daniel fired them into a first-minute lead with a simple penalty.

But Gareth Bennett knocked on at the kick off, Tondu gained possession, fly half Mark Jones chipped to the clubhouse corner and the home defence allowed the ball to bounce straight into the hands of winger Gavin Samuels for a simple unconverted try.

Home prop Fifitapuku Faletau charged through to establish another platform for the Otters but was injured in the process. At first it seemed as if he would be stretchered off but he continued at the resulting scrum and helped Narberth to secure quality possession from which Killa and Daniel put centre Elgan Vittle on a clever little diagonal run which beat the cover for a try which Daniel was unable to convert.

The Otters added a second try in the 23rd minute, when Andrew Jones sprinted 30 metres to round off a move he had started.

Simon Daniel rapped the post with the conversion attempt but added a penalty to give his side a 16-5 advantage with half time in sight.

But then Tondu showed they could still strike back as the Otters made unforced errors and conceded ten points in the minutes before and after the break as Mark Jones landed a penalty and straight after the oranges full back Lee Byrne sprinted clear to claim his fifth try for Tondu in the last four matches, Jones slotting the simple conversion.

Narberth had chances galore but over-complications in midfield - and some rank bad passing, saw them create pressure for themselves as Byryne, Jamie Davies and skipper Nathan Strong were always looking to snatch something back.

But the Otters continued to make errors and another Mark Jones penalty from fully 50 metres pushed Tondu in front at the end of the third quarter. It was a warning signal that Narberth heeded, however, because Daniel kicked a 30-metre penalty after a Nick Jones break - and two snap drop goals by the fly half following further pressure saw Narberth gain a deserved win.
