Hotel sale shrouded in secrecy

THE Cleddau Bridge Hotel was at the centre of confusion this week over whether or not it is on the market for £1.25 million.

The hotel, at Pembroke Dock, was advertised in the May issue of Caterer and Hotelkeeper by specialist estate agent Robert Barry and Co.

However, Bob Angell, co-owner of the hotel, said it was not on the market. He told the Western Telegraph: "The selling of the hotel is definitely out the window. We had thought about selling but changed our minds." Mr Angell said he had tried to contact Caterer and Hotelkeeper to have the advert removed, but had called too late.

He said staff were now clear that the hotel was not for sale.

In fact, Mr Angell, told the Western Telegraph on Monday, that a new general manager was appointed on May 1st, and there are plans to develop the hotel and add another 60 bedrooms.

Thomas Renault, the Cleddau Bridge Hotel's new general manger comes to Pembrokeshire from France, via London where he was involved in running the food and beverage department in a 255-bedroomed, three-star hotel.

Rumours that the hotel may be closed and re-developed into housing were also dismissed by Mr Angell.

He said: "I don't think we would ever get permission for that, even if we wanted to."
