County's children of courage honoured

A VERY special evening was held recently to honour a group of Pembrokeshire children for their bravery.

The Star Awards are organised by the Pembrokeshire Voluntary Star Group in association with Texaco Ltd - a Chevron Texaco company - which also sponsored the event.

The children were recognised for their courage and bravery in the face of illness, disaster or drama, for their good citizenship in the community. The event was held at the Withybush Conference Centre and was attended by the children and their families.

The awards were presented by Peter Morris, district controller, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, who has attended every Star Award meeting, and the evening was compered by Pembrokeshire's own star, Brian Harries.

All the children nominated are star achievers and include Gabrielle Forder, Alycia Smith, Joshua and Liam Phillips, Kate Phillips, Gemma Rees, Daniel Burrows, Georgina Gould, Laura James, Gregory Harries, Louise Rees, Ben Covel and Shane Goodrich, who was unable to attend the ceremony.

Selected as five star achievers were Emily Phillips, Mark Harries and Andrew Phillips.

All 15 nominees received framed certificates and beautiful gifts on the night. Shane Goodrich's certificate and gift will be presented to him in the near future.

The evening's musical entertainment was provided by Saxtet, from Milford Haven School. Bongo Clive entertained and provided the audience participation with all the children and their families - singing, clapping and even playing numerous musical instruments.

Thanks were extended to the Pembrokeshire Voluntary Star Group committee, the WI for providing refreshments and especially Texaco for their generous support and sponsorship.
