Llangwm stroll to easy win

Llangwm (128 for 3) beat Pembroke (125 all out) Umpires: Alan Hansen and Tony Scourfield Scorer: Jeff Saies

Pembroke started well at Pill Parks but they were unable to maintain any momentum once Matthew Mitchell departed for 40, all of the Llangwm bowlers sharing in the wickets as the visitors were eventually dismissed in 38.5 overs.

Then George Thomas continued his excellent start with the bat as he scored another fine 69 not out and Llangwm were home and dry after less than 30 of their allotted overs used up.

Yet Pembroke looked as if they would do well as 12 runs came off the first over of the match, but skipper and anchor man Barry Evans was bowled by opposite number Darren Brick before Paul White also departed as he played on a ball from Andrew Phillips.

The loss of Mitchell for a typically robust 40 was a body blow for Pembroke and although Llangwm downed a couple of catches they soon made amends as Ackie Harries took a superb catch to remove William Davies, whose father Hugh followed to a good catch over his shoulder from Brick, both off Martyn Inward's bowling at the bottom end.

Mark Fraser battled his way to 18 for Pembroke before he was bowled by Matthew Hughes, with Martyn Inward returning the best figures and son Chris rounding off the innings as George Thomas took his third catch behind the wicket to shift Keith Johnson.

Llangwm started well as Thomas maintained his good form and Alister Platten helped him put on 60 runs for the first wicket before he was caught by Phil Hay off Martin Fletcher's bowling.

Fletcher also removed Ian Gow for a duck, the left-hander again adjudged lbw as he played across the line, and Hay bowled Harries without a run to his name to set a few alarm bells ringing in the Llangwm camp.

But Henry Thomas joined his younger brother George and his sensible 10 not out, allied to some fine shots by Thomas junior saw Llangwm home to a relatively comfortable win.
