Dear Editor, - Thank you for printing my letter and old photograph of the open top bus, Real Horsepower To The Rescue, June 18th. I received a letter from Gareth James, of Newport. He tells me that the open top bus was taking children from the Cippin area of north Pembrokeshire to St Dogmaels School when it was caught by the tide on the road from Poppit Sands to the Webley Hotel. The bus was owned by the late Lewis Williams, of St Dogmaels.
The shire horses came to the rescue from nearby Manian Fawr Farm, owned by the late Jones family. The occasion was 1929/30.
Mr James was brought up in north Pembrokeshire and remembers his father telling him of this incident when the high tide covered the area before the road that is there now was made. Mr James himself has a copy of the same photograph.

Dear Editor, - With reference to the letter Real Horsepower To The Rescue, (June 18th), the registration DE 6041 was first issued for a hackney vehicle belonging to T. P. Williams, Rose Lynn, St Dogmaels, on April 28th, 1927.
It was later transferred to: 1, W. G. Richards of New Inn, Moylegrove; 2, J. Thomas, of Crugiau Fawr, Nevern; 3, W. G. Richards, of Brodawel, Moylegrove. The registration was voided in May 1942.
The 'rescue' probably took place in the Teifi estuary, although it could possibly have been at Newport. W. G. Richards was possibly the founder of Richards Bros Coaches?
