Workforce goes green

Green electronic component firm St David's Assemblies is enhancing its environmental credentials by calling on ARENA Network to deliver its new training programme.

The firm is among the first in Wales to sign up for the environmental business' Confidence in Learning programme, to train workforces in environmental issues.

The business, which turns out 500,000 injection moulded thermostatic kettle controls each week, has green issues at the forefront of its operations.

The firm, employing 140 people, has attained the coveted ARENA Network green dragon environmental management standard level four accreditation - and is now going for the highest-level five standard.

Production engineering manager Andy Darley said: "The products we make help reduce energy waste by switching off kettles when they boil and this ethos is carried throughout the business.

"We are proud we have achieved green dragon level four and are working hard towards achieving the level five."

Mr Darley said St David's Assemblies was in talks with the local authority over ways to set up a cardboard recycling operation in the area to avoid land filling.
