Sun shines on carnival

This year's Newport Carnival was blessed with sunshine.

The organisers were pleased with a particularly good turnout - despite a complete lack of entrants in the walking tableaux section.

The winners (first in each section) were: float, Harry Potter (Parrog Group); decorated pram/pushchair, meals on wheels (Georgina Morris); five years and under, Peter Pan (Sean Lewis); six - 11-year-old boys, clown (William Smith); six - 11-year-old girls, clown (Sadie Morris); under 16s pairs, cowboy and cowgirl (Dominic and Leah Eleston); adult, Pied Piper (Libby Parry); adult pairs, the William sisters (Pete and Dan); best TV, one man and his dog (Gordon Thomas) and lovely legs 2003 (Kim James).
