Carew cruise to easy win as 'Tish take a tumble

St Ishmaels (99 all out) lost to Carew (100 for 2) Umpires: Les Hastings and Mike Harries Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw, Steve Ive and Pat Williams

Carew maintained top spot in the table with a comprehensive defeat of a St Ishmaels' side which has lost its batting sparkle over recent weeks. They only managed 99 runs after being invited to bat first - and Carew lost to just two wickets in reaching their target in only 33.3 overs.

A measure of the Tish batting decline can be gauged by the fact that Steve Williams, Peter Bradshaw and Jonathan Pawlett were all back in the hutch with the score on eight runs as Darren Thomas claimed two wickets, one with the aid of a good catch by young keeper Aled Griffiths, and Tim Hicks grabbed the third victim.

Andrew Palmer showed what a good all-rounder he has become with top score of 53, including seven fours, but only Andrew Williams and Adam Davies managed double figures as spinner John Canton (3 for 11) and Rob Scourfield (2 for 22) wrapped the innings up.

Carew started well with a stand of 37 between Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield before the former departed for 20, caught by Paul Palmer off Andrew Palmer's bowling.

Simon Wood also contributed 15 before he fell to Pawlett but Nick Scourfield's admirable concentration was again rewarded with an undefeated 35 alongside brother Martin's 11 not out - and Carew were again triumphant in league action.

The Tish match ball was sponsored by Phil Hart while the teas were provided by Mrs Jill Pawlett.
