Thomas boys in fine fettle

Llangwm (239 for 4) drew with Lawrenny (175 for 9) Umpires: Dave Loosemore and John Williams Scorers: Jeff Saies and Malcolm Thomas

Brothers George and Henry Thomas sent Llangwm to a huge total at Pill Parks against a Lawrenny side which also batted well to earn a draw in a match where over 400 runs were again scored.

With father Graham looking proudly on, George reached a fine 100 not out in the last over after sharing an unbroken stand of 125 with big brother Henry, who showed what a talented cricketer he is as he struck eight fours and four sixes en route to 71 not out. Efficient club sec Brian James was able to report afterwards that this knock took George's league average for the season to 114.5 while Henry only needed 48 balls to mount his tally, a feat that was all the more remarkable since he faced his first 12 balls without scoring!

In sharp contrast, Ian Gow took 35 balls for his seven runs and Alister Platten departed for a duck before William Beresford and Andrew Harries chipped in respectively with 29 and 12.

Lawrenny also began well as Andrew Cole and Chris Vincent put on 30 runs, Simon Cole then joining Vincent in another good stand of 62 before he became one of talented youngster Chris Inward's three victims in a smashing little six-over spell where he conceded only 17 runs.

James Buckle and skipper Rob Williams also contributed to the Lawrenny cause as Vincent top-scored with an excellent 73, that included ten fours and two sixes, out of the first 119 runs.

Then Chris Inward and Andrew Phillips intervened in his second spell so that the last Lawrenny pair of Ian Jenkins and Steve Rees came together with Phillips having grabbed 4 for 34 and joining in a huge last-ball appeal for lbw which was turned down, giving both sides a share of the spoils from an entertaining match.
