Scourfield stars for Carew

Carew (218 for 7) beat Llangwm (110 all out) Trefor Evans and Rob Bellerby

Carew maintained their thrust for the championship with a comprehensive win over a Llangwm side that was delighted to welcome back McPherson Meade - and with Rob Scourfield showing what an asset he is to the Carew side with 67 runs and a late wicket brace after Tim Hicks and John Canton had broken the back of a Llangwm batting order which has been in very good form of late.

Scourfield had been moved up to No 3 in a batting reshuffle and his runs were all the more important since big brother Nick, Simon Wood and Steve Cole all departed for just six runs apiece. He had five boundaries to his credit and found willing allies in Ian Sefton and Phil Jones, who scored 28 runs each.

Rob Scourfield was one of three catches well taken by JoJo Francis as keeper William Beresford also took two catches as Darren Brick, Andrew Phillips and Andrew Harries all claimed two wickets.

But Carew rocketed past the 200 mark as Aled Davies and Darren Thomas crashed 41 runs off the last two overs, skipper Thomas belting three sixes and four fours from an unbeaten 40 made from only 17 balls as Davies supported with 13 not out.

Llangwm made a steady start through Alister Platten and George Thomas but Tim Hicks charged in to remove them both, ending Thomas's run of superb form with the assistance of a good catch by teenage keeper Aled Griffiths.

Hicks then shifted William Beresford and Meade with the aid of two excellent slip catches from Darren Thomas in his 4 for 33 analysis - and John Canton's spin caused problems at the other end as he grabbed 4 for 27 in ten overs.

Chris Inward again showed what an asset he is to the side with a nicely compiled 25 not out before Rob Scourfield dismissed skipper brick and Andrew Phillips as Carew again collected maximum bonus points as reward for their performance.
