Second police raid on club

A second raid has been carried out by police and council officials to seize sound equipment at the former Chequers club in Penally.

The 6am swoop came on Sunday of last week when speakers, amplifiers and other sound equipment was seized under the terms of the Environmental Protection Act 1980. Two days earlier, a High Court injunction was granted against Thomas Hutton Sinclair junior, other named officers of the Evolution Experience Members Club and 'any future office holder of that Club'.

They are required to comply with the terms of abatement notices, preventing the causing of a noise nuisance to the occupants of the adjoining Crackwell Caravan Park. Said a Pembrokeshire County Council spokesman: "The council will seek to re-affirm this injunction at a full hearing in the autumn."

During last week's raid, an enforcement notice was also served in respect of a vehicle being used to generate loud music in the club.

The council says it is now considering taking legal action against 'a number of identified persons' believed to be involved in the running of the club.

Following the injunction, the club re-opened under the management of Dance Nation 2000 Members Club. This describes itself as 'a bona-fide non profit-making members club with 4,000 members, which has previously operated at other venues over the last three years, including Wall Street night club in Milford Haven.

"At a meeting of the committee of Dance Nation 2000 Members Club, the committee chose to adopt en masse the members of Evolution Experience Members Club to Dance Nation 2000."

The Evolution Experience Members Club has now been dissolved following legal advice and Dance Nation 2000 Members Club is the current occupier of Chequers, it said in a statement.

The club said it would be 'business as usual' last weekend, and added that all those served with noise notices would be appealing to the Crown Court.
