Political background? 2001 General Election candidate for Plaid Cymru in Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire. Public service? School governor. member of the former Welsh Office voluntary sector forum. Former town sheriff, deputy mayor and mayor of Carmarthen. Personal interests? Travel, walking, sport and music.

If elected, what will you try to do about the following local issues: Attracting new jobs?

Set specific regional job creation targets and move government jobs into areas like west Wales. The local economy?

The Assembly should invest more money in small businesses. Key sectors aretourism, renewable energy, recycling and production of high quality food. The local health service? We must provide more doctors, nurses and hospital beds, more NHS dentists, free personal care for the elderly and free prescriptions, eye tests and dental checks for all. Road and rail links? Money used for the commuter networks of London and the south east should be spent on improving Wales' rail services. A strategic rail authority for Wales would help get our rightful funding share. I support improving the A40 and A477 and want something done about the new Sageston roundabout. The Bluestone project and tourism?

We want to ensure this constituency benefits from the growing interest in environmental, heritage and cultural tourism and develops higher education tourism centres of excellence. I support the Bluestone project. Farming?

I want to see a young farmers entrants scheme; more milk processing centres in west Wales; and initiatives to encourage public bodies to buy locally produced food. Education and schools?

We want to reduce the bureaucratic burden on teachers, scrap compulsory tests for 11 and 14-year-olds, change the inspection system, provide more classroom assistants, scrap tuition and top-up fees for students and re-introduce a proper means-tested maintenance grant. War with Iraq?

The war had no moral or legal basis. What sums up your constituency's challenge?

To be a strong voice for this constituency - fighting for better public services and a fairer share of jobs and investment.
