Carnival fever strikes again

Festival fever captured the crowds in Pembrokeshire again this weekend with a carnival, Festival of the Sea and Rainbow Fun Day.

Haverfordwest's Festival Week came to a climax with the carnival procession followed by an It's a Knockout competition.

Other attractions on the Bridge Meadow included the Rodeo Bull, Caradog the Magic Man, Karlos the clown and a fairground.

The top teams in the It's a Knockout competition, sponsored by Green Bower Garages, were: 1, Doctors on Call, 2, The Prince's Trust, 3, Oakwood.

The Doctors on Call team received a cup, champagne and £250, which they donated to the Round Table's Lands End to John O'Groats sponsored bike ride in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation.

David Howlett, Round Table chairman, said: "The crowd was as big as ever and the public gave generously to Round Tablers who collected en route."

At a separate event at Tasker Milward School, Haverfordwest, Rainbow Guides from all over the county gathered for a Fun Day with craft-making, singing and dancing.

Fishguard's Festival of the Sea saw residents and visitors enjoy water sports, the creation of a wall hanging with a sea theme using recycled material, a field of sound and water sculpture workshop run by Buzz Knapp-Fisher and tales of the sea told by Megan Lloyd, of Ocean Lab. There were beach activities, a barbecue, bouncy castle, mega-slide, fireworks, and an evening musical event.

Held in conjunction with the festival was the Pembrokeshire Triathlon and annual raft races.

Said Sian James, chairman of the New Millennium Committee which organised the Festival: "Everything went very well despite a few heavy showers. And the evening event was trouble-free with a lovely family atmosphere."
