'Tish too strong in batting stakes

St Ishmaels (161 for 4) beat Lawrenny (160 for 8)

Umpires: Rob Bellerby and Alan Hansen Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw and Malcolm Thomas

After restricting Lawrenny to 160 for 8 in an innings that was interrupted by rain, St Ishmaels showed their true batting power as they reached their target with 17 balls to spare, Peter Bradshaw and Jonathan Pawlett leading the way with some good stroke play.

Kristan Bennett was the spearhead of the Tish bowling attack as he shifted Chris Vincent and Andrew Cole early on, before James Buckle (30), Christian Phillips (28) and Simon Cole steadied the middle order. Ian Jenkins was unbeaten on 23 and Steve Rees hit a six in his late 13 not out as Bennett finished with 4 for 34 alongside another good spell of spin bowling by Steve Williams which produced final figures of 3 for 28 in 12 overs.

Although Tish lost Steve Williams with the score on 14, a partnership of 80 by Peter Bradshaw and Andrew Williams put them on top, Bradshaw maintaining his good form since his return from university with five fours in his 48 before he was well caught by Ian Jenkins off Steve Rees's bowling.

Williams followed six runs later as he was caught by Rob Williams off the same bowler and Andrew Palmer departed cheaply, bowled by Simon Cole - and at 102 for 4 Lawrenny scented a slight opening.

But Jonathan Pawlett showed his array of shots with five fours and a six in his unbeaten 44 as skipper Glyn Griffiths played sensibly alongside with 11 not out in an unbroken stand of 59 which left Tish winners by six wickets.

The Tish match ball was sponsored by Richard Jenkins and the teas provided by Anne Symons.
