Cob is top horse at show

The rain stopped in time to prevent the recent Cardigan and District Agricultural Show, from being financial washout.

Classes for cattle and other cloven footed animals were re-introduced after a two-year absence through foot and mouth.

Greens Motors, Haverfordwest, ensured line dancing demonstrations by the Newcastle Emlyn-based Teifi Valley Stompers continued by providing a small marquee.

Judge Simon Davies, of Castell Hyfryd Holsteins, Brynhyfryd, Hebron, Whitland, awarded the supreme dairy championship prize to the Jersey breed champ Clover Royal Victress Maisie 5th owned and exhibited by Maisie and Maurice Randerson, Cwrcoed, Llangoedmor. Mr Randerson said: "Today is the first time I have shown here, but I was always convinced she had the makings of a good 'un."

As reserve he chose Holstein champ Tregibby Geraldine 36th, a third calver from the pedigree Tregibby herd owned and run by Hefyn Wilson.

The Welsh Cobs Section D champion emerged as the supreme champ of the horse section. Nine-year-old bay Cob mare Fronarth Flamgoch, owned and bred by Messrs Jones Bros, and Mr and Mrs G. Jones, Frongoy, Llanon, beat off stiff competition from Royal Welsh reserve champion Shire Caerberllan Gift, a three year-old filly gentle giant owned by William Jones Tywyn.
