Scourfield stars for Carew

Carew (157 for 4) beat Lawrenny (155 all out) Umpires: Hilliard Davies and Ray Kane Scorers: Sue Phillips and Malcolm Thomas

Carew maintained their giant lead at the head of the table as they beat local rivals Lawrenny by six wickets as Rob Scourfield again showed what an asset he is to the side with another battling display with the bat after he had grabbed two late wickets in restricting Lawrenny to 155 all out.

He arrived at the crease after Carew had lost three wickets for only 18 runs and stayed to see them home with an unbeaten 77 that included 13 boundaries as he found a willing ally in Phil Jones (33 not out).

Lawrenny were without key players Rob Williams and Chris Vincent - and made a disappointing start in losing Andrew Cole (senior) and James Buckle to Darren Thomas very early on.

Simon Wood also shifted Simon Cole at the other end but Lawrenny fought back through little cameos from Christian Phillips, Adrian Harries and Steve Lewis, who looked back to his old form until he was caught at deep mid-wicket by Steve Cole off Rob Scourfield. Simon Wood finished with 4 for 36 and Thomas 3 for 48 as the Lawrenny innings received a massive late boost from No 9 Andrew Cole (junior), who sped to 50 in only 26 balls as he lofted five big sixes before being caught at long-on by Nick Scourfield.

Carew's response started with a bang as Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield scored 14 runs from the first three balls before Simon Cole fought back by having Sefton caught at second slip by James Buckle and Simon Wood followed next ball for a 'golden duck' as he edged the ball to Ian Jenkins at first slip.

Nick Scourfield followed soon afterwards to Steve Rees and James Buckle shifted Steve Cole for 19 - but then Rob Scourfield replaced his big brother at the crease and Phil Jones provided the supporting role.
