Platten just falls short

Cresselly (235 for 8) drew with Llangwm (169 for 7) Umpires: Les Hastings and Dave Brandon Scorers: Dave Richards and Huw Brock

Alister Platten came close to a century for Llangwm but he fell just three runs short - but at least 'Plat's' had the satisfaction that his fine knock helped Llangwm gain a draw in their battle to keep out of the bottom three in the developing relegation dog-fight. Cresselly remain in third place after scoring a huge 235 for 8 but again it was their inability to bowl the opposition out that cost them maximum points.

Cresselly made a sharp start with openers Adam Chandler and Phil Williams adding 61 runs in eight overs before Chandler gave a return catch to Darren Brick having scored 35 runs.

Brick was again the pick of the Llangwm Bowlers with four wickets but Williams top-scored with an excellent 78 (11 fours and two sixes) before he became one of Martyn Inward's two scalps.

Richard Harris also batted well before falling one run short of a half century - and a late 21 from Ryan Lewis also helped to boost an already-challenging tally for Llangwm to chase.

George Thomas and Platten gave Llangwm a solid early platform but after Thomas departed only brother Henry reached double figures as Platten took charge at the other end.

He stroked 16 boundaries and a six but just when the coveted three figures seemed assured he fell to a good catch by Phil Williams off Adam Chandler and although Stefan Jenkins claimed two late wickets for Cresselly a draw was inevitable in the final analysis.
