Festival of wind is flying high

Frogs, dogs, pairs of legs and aliens were seen in the skies over Carew's former airfield last weekend.

But it wasn't the sun doing funny things to people's eyes - it was the third annual Pembrokeshire Festival of Wind!

Huge flying sculptures by leading kite artists hung in the air alongside tiny creations made by children in on-site workshops. People browsed stalls selling all manner of flying and flapping things, or sat down and just enjoyed the spectacle of scores of kites soaring in a blue sky.

"From what we have seen this year, the potential for the future is fantastic," said Steve Walton, event organiser and professional kite maker. "We're hoping for more funding in 2004 to make this event the biggest festival of its kind in Europe, and we hope anyone with ideas about wind related things will come along," he explained.

"This is all about promoting Pembrokeshire as a windy county. It's about creating a festival that no other county has."
