Fancy dress fever

There was an impressive turnout of fancy dress competitors and floats at Fishguard Carnival on Saturday.

Despite the very hot weather and several competing events, there was a good turnout and Mr Gerald Thomas, chairman of Fishguard and District Round Table, said the event was a success.

"We had six floats and more than 20 fancy dress entries, which is an excellent turnout. Everyone enjoyed the carnival and I would like to thank local businesses for again supporting the event," he said.

The judges were the mayor Councillor Anne Harries and her predecessor Councillor Dai Williams. Leading the carnival procession through the town to Lota Park, was a police motorcyclist and the Goodwick Brass Band. Two vintage cars, owned by Mr Mchugh, carried the carnival queen and the mayor.

Fishguard Sea Cadets manned the gates and sold programmes. On the field itself, local residents and visitors enjoyed Jugglestruck, the Dog and String Theatre and Maesgwynne Pony Rides. And making its debut on the carnival field was the Bucking Bronco, which proved a huge success.

Said Mr Thomas: "I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and Pam and Mike of the Pendre, for supplying the food afterwards."

The results were: Float 1, Llain Las; 2, Fabs; 3, Where You Bin. Junior float: 1, Little Mermaids; 2, Llewiaur Enfys; 3, Children of the World. Fancy dress for under ten: Mary had a Little Lamb; 2, Little Busy Bee; 3, Christmas Box. ten-16 years: 1, Mexico; 2, Japan; 3, Captain Hook. 16 plus: 1, Hello Sailor; 2, Demon of the Deep: 3, Neptune.
