Memorable week promised for Tenby

Many local people and visitors have discovered over the past years, that there is no better time to be in Tenby than during its arts festival, which starts on September 20th, and runs until Saturday, September 27th.

The festival is now in its twelfth year, and offers a busy and varied programme with something for all tastes and interests.

The programme includes events such as an evening of Song and Harp - Aled Jones and Elinor Bennett, The Bath Camerata, conducted by Nigel Perrin, and a preview of the Pembrokeshire Pevsner.

The festival traditionally opens with a weekend of family fun. A parade, music on the streets, a sand sculpture competition and kite flying, will give the town a celebratory feeling.

The week will then offer a feast of music and poetry. The opening concerts will be a choice of the Rachmaninov Vespers, performed by the Dyfed Choir, or the return of the dynamic Mugenko Taiko Drummers.

Those interested in dance will have the opportunity to enjoy a talk by leading British Choreographer, Geraldine Stephenson, whose work in the world of TV, theatre and film, will be familiar to most people, even though they will not necessarily know her name. The festival is rich in poetry, with three very different writers reading their work - Brother David from Caldey, Jim MacCool and Kenneth Steven. Leading solo artists Timothy Noon, organ, and Young-Choon Park, piano, who have delighted past festival audiences, will make a welcome return to the festival.

There will also be late night Trad Jazz from the Memphis Seven. All this, plus local favourites such as Ysgol Greenhill Orchestras and Tenby Male Choir, a festival open art competition, and much more, promises a memorable week in Tenby.
