With the Government and the National Assembly yet to have their say on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) mid-term review, a farming leader has appealed to MPs, AMs and MEPs to do their best to give Pembrokeshire farmers a fair chance to benefit.
Speaking as guest of honour at the president's lunch on the first day of the County Show, NFU district secretary Dorian Williams said Pembrokeshire farmers had always shown great ability to adapt to change and he was confident they would continue to do so.
Stressing the current difficulty in recruiting manual workers, he said career opportunities had to be provided to change this trend.
The NFU and the Pembrokeshire Agricul-tural Society were inextricably linked, he said, a fact which was clearly illustrated by comparing the names of an array of former society presidents on the honours board at Agriculture House.
President John Evans said he was grateful to Mr Williams and his NFU predecessors for the great reservoir of advice and knowledge they had provided for the industry over many years.
